One of the "burdens" of being very smart - and a difficulty we, as parents faced in trying to challenge you and hold you accountable without being overbearing. Same as with your soccer. How far to push and how much to let you push yourself? All-in-all, I think you are navigating your way through it all quite nicely.

Yeah, that's exactly what it was for: lack of effort. I could have easily gotten an A. And while I was pissed at the time (and still am upset about it, sort of kind of), I also sort of wish that had happened more during my younger years, because I never did give a true effort in anything. My half-effort was always enough to put me in the upper levels skill-wise. Which I suppose I shouldn't complain about, but at the same time, I'm having to learn skills now that many of my peers learned a long time ago.

So, tell me about the time you got grounded for a B+ because I don't remember it. I'm guessing it had something to do with your parents thinking you got an "F" for effort (even though it translated into a B+?). Anyway, I have to say I saw something of myself in your words. Quitting rather than failing has been my modus operandi for quite some time I think. I hope it is something you can grow out of and is not hereditary!

@Ayshia
The jumping in thing has always been incredibly hard for me. It took me over 10 weeks in grad school before someone forced me to speak up in class discussions, and then another 10 weeks or so before I felt comfortable doing it. But then I graduated, moved away from that group of people, and the problem is back again.

And since you don't think I'm boring, and I don't think you're boring, we really should stop talking about hanging out and just do it!

I sympathize a lot with this post. I always feel like I don't quite 'fit' with others in a group setting, expecially with other moms or strangers. Often in group conversation flow, rather than saying what I want, I will either self edit (cause who really wants to know what I really think!) or keep quiet completely. I'm better with a one-on-one setting, but not really comfortable just jumping in unless i'm with my family or close friends.
Also...I feel the need to tell you you are not the least bit boring! :)

I loved Ann Rinaldi when I was younger, too. Also, I thought Room was really good. Also, I love my birthday too. In my opinion, when you no longer care about your birthday and think it's fun, then you're old.

You know, that's a good question, because they have been talking about it for a long time. I wonder if it's next after the art museum is finished.

Dude, they've been talking about tearing down Morrill Hall since I was an undergrad. Sure, now they're actually going to do it, but in all fairness, only the drywall is keeping that thing up as it is.
