Updated Writing List
Always nice to remember the books I meant to read. Here’s my current and (planned) upcoming reading list.
Current:
- The Sound and the Fury, by William Faulkner (yeah, yeah, this was on my summer reading list)
- Against our Will: Men, Women, and Rape, by Susan Brownmiller (bit dated but very good)
- A Day in the Life of Ancient Rome, by Alberto Angela (voice is annoying and very poorly copyedited, but interesting)
- Harry Potter et la Chambre des Secrets (I’m not going to say either how long I’ve been working on this or how far in I am)
To-Read
- A Gate at the Stairs, by Lorrie Moore
- Veronica, by Mary Gaitskill
- Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, by Nicholas D. Kristof
What are you reading? And always remember to support your independent book seller!
I just finished “The Christmas Cookie Club” which is set in the Ann Arbor area and mentions lots of places I’ve been. This one would be an interesting discussion item for a previous post on how much authors can use from the real people they know. The story is fluff otherwise, and I found the characters to be unbelievable, but there are interesting sections on the history of various cookie ingredients that I enjoyed.
What other Lorrie Moore have you read? Gate at the Stairs is not one of her best. I’d definitely do Birds of America, Frog Hospital or Self Help first.
@TJ
That’s what I keep hearing. I haven’t actually read anything else by her, but I found a signed copy of Gate at the Stairs. Maybe I’ll look into a different one by her.
If you need to borrow anything, let me know.
